Radio Abisinia (Clandestine to Ethiopia) via IRRS

15470 kHz.  Received in Leonia, New Jersey, USA.

01-Aug-2015, Local Time – 12:00 Noon  (1600 UTC)   Language: Amharic

Receiver: Microtelecom Perseus    Antenna: MFJ-1899T Whip (Roof top of my car)

The station name has been confirmed as Radio Abisinia, according to a Japanese DXers’ discussion site.

Abisinia (in English typically spelled as Abyssinia) is the old name of Ethiopia.

Amharic ID sounds like “Yeh Radio Abisinia neu.”  They seem to broadcast on shortwave Saturday only.

Here in NJ, the reception at the beginning was relatively weak but toward the end (before 1800 UTC), the signal was getting better.  The following video includes both parts.
