Reach Beyond – Australia (HCJB Global Voice)

17760 kHz.  Received at Niigata, Japan.

3-Jan-2015, Local Time – 7:29 AM (2229 UTC), Language: English, Japanese

Receiver: Microtelecom Perseus   Antenna: AAA-1 Loop (indoor)

English ID then followed by Japanese ID ” Kochirawa HCJB-no Nippongo hoso desu”, which means “This is HCJB Japanese program.”

The original Japanese-language broadcasting of HCJB from Quito Ecuador started in 1965, and became one of the most popular shortwave programs for Japanese listeners.  In 1976, when shortwave listening became a big boom in Japan, the station received over 60,000 reception reports from that country.  The broadcast was once terminated in 2000, but revived in 2006 by using transmitter in Kununurra, Australia.  Since they started in 1965 until now, it has been hosted by the same person, Mr. Kazuo Ozaki, a Japanese missionary who currently lives in Arizona USA where he records his program as well.  Even though they changed the station name to “Reach Beyond,”  many Japanese listeners, including myself, petitioned the organization to keep using the name “HCJB” for the Japanese program.  I know that HCJB is a callsign of Ecuador, not Australia, but Japanese shortwave fans can never forget this name wherever it is from.
